Artist Statement 

 

    My idea for childhood was to show how someone might regret part of their past and wish they could go back and change it. Most of the time when looking back at their childhood, people have very happy memories but there still might be something they wish they could tell themselves as a child. Some of these things might be simple such as spend more time outside or it could be more serious lessons such as you cannot trust everyone you meet. 

    The main focus of my photo is on a note that says “Advice to my 5 year old self…”. The girl in the photo is holding onto the note that is attached to a balloon as if she is going to release it into the sky. The red balloon symbolizes childhood and the action of releasing the balloon shows how someone is freeing themselves of their regret. 

    I like how this photo turned out because it makes the viewer think about what advice they would give to their own younger self. The message on the note draws the viewer in and makes it more personal to them.
