Artist Statement:

Everyone has secrets but the way individuals let these secrets affect them varies from person to person. I chose to show this idea through a diptych. The character in the left photo is showing how keeping a secret can make a person feel emotionally and physically weighed down. This “weight” that they are carrying is represented by the heavy and overflowing backpack. The character on the left however, does not have any secrets to keep and she feels happier because of it. The book symbolizes how she lives her life like an open book and does not have anything to hold back.

To take these photos I used the studio lighting and white backdrop. The lighting did not turn out as good as I hoped because the background is not an even shade of white. I decided to create a diptych because I feel that secrets can affect people in multiple ways depending on the secret and the person.
