Artist Statement

​

   The sound of someone playing the piano has always brought happiness to me. For my photo I chose to show my dad playing the piano. Throughout my childhood my dad would play the piano and it brought both him and everyone who could hear, great joy. Music has a way of speaking to people through a way that words cannot even begin to describe.

​

   To take this photo I had my dad simply play the piano while I took photos around him. By having him play a real song gives my photo a more authentic feel. I had him choose one of his favorite songs to play. Also, there is a picture of my dad when he was little next to a piano and this shows how playing the piano has been making him happy his entire life. In taking this photo it was difficult to make sure the lighting was good because the piano is located right next to a big window which can give off a harsh glare.

   This photo has a lot of personal meaning behind it however I believe a lot of people can relate to it. Everyone knows what it is like to hear music and instantly be filled with happiness and past memories.
